FitLink.com Privacy Policy
Effective date - September 14, 2006
FitLink.com ("We", "Us", "Our" or the "Website") has created this Privacy Statement ("Policy") to demonstrate our commitment to helping our users understand what information We collect from them and what We do with that information. The Website uses standard practices of privacy in order to protect the information you wish to keep private. By using the Website, users agree to the Policy and consent to Our use and disclosure of the information with which they provide us in the manner prescribed by the Policy.
Overview
FitLink.com is an online community that allows members ("Member") to create personal profiles, track workout results, connect with workout partners, and exchange information such as photos or interests with other users of the site.
Username and Password
The Website requires that you create a username and password of your choice with a minimum of six characters each in order to become a Member. This is to protect your privacy. Your username will be visible to other visitors and Members of the Website, so choose a name you wish others to know. Your password will never be visible to others, so keep it secure and do not share it with anyone. If you forget your password, you can select the "Forgot Password" option on the login page and a new temporary password will be e-mailed to the e-mail account you provided us. You will then be prompted to create a new password. This new password will also be secure and not disclosed to other individuals or companies. If you need to change your username, you can send a written request to the Website at support@FitLink.com.
Links
The Website contains links to other websites. Please be aware that We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any other website. We encourage all Members to be aware of when they leave Our website, and to read the privacy policies of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information.
Information We Collect
User IP addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes.
In order to create a Member profile, an e-mail address is required to validate the account. Your e-mail address is private and will not be shown to other users. You may optionally specify your first and last name, which is private and will not be shown to other users, but may be used by Members to search for your profile. You will be asked to provide your geographic address to assist in finding other Members in your geographic area. This is not required, but if it is provided, it will remain private and will not be shown to other Members with the exception of city, state, and country information. The Website also collects information including, but not limited to, age, gender, activities of interest, preferred workout times, and experience in exercising in order to better match you with other Member's profiles. The information you provide may be shared with other users if you choose.
What We Do With Information We collect
The information we collect is primarily used to help you create a fitness profile, help others find your profile, and for Us to match you with other similar Members. We will never share, sell, trade, rent, or show your private information to other companies or individuals. The Website will never spam or sell e-mail addresses. We may share profile information or collect usage information in a non-personally identifiable manner in order for Us or third parties better understand our users' demographic. This information will not and cannot be used to personally identify you. Premium Location owners can send private targeted messages to Members who are affiliated with their location on the Website. The criteria used to target the messages can include any information collected by the Website. We may display customized messages or advertisements on any or all web pages based on information collected by the Website. The messages or advertisements may be created by Us or other users of the Website.
Who Can View Your Information
You can choose for your personal profile information to be visible by 'Everyone,' 'Community members only,' or by 'Friends only.' If you choose to be visible by 'Everyone,' your profile can be viewed by anyone visiting the Website. If you choose to be visible by 'Community members only,' your profile can be found in searches and viewed by other Members of the Website. If you choose to be visible by 'Friends only', your profile can be found in searches and viewed by Members that you have added as your friend on the Website. You have the ability to designate other Members as your personal trainer, whom will then have the same visibility rights as a friend. By default, when creating an account, your visibility will set to 'Everyone'. To change your profile visibility, click the 'Account' quick link when you are logged in.
You can set the visibility of each journal entry individually. The settings include 'Private' which only you can view, 'Trainer' which only you and any Members you have designated as your trainer can view, 'Friends only' which only you, your trainer and Members you have named as your friends can view, or 'Public' which any Member of the Website can view. The visibility setting of your profile and each journal entry may be changed at any time.
The Website is designed for Members to interact. Tools for interaction include private messages, public and private discussion forums, public comments on Member's profiles, group memberships, location affiliations, event participations, and more. If you interact with other members using these tools, your profile photo and interaction details may be visible to other users of the Website. For example, if you post a public comment on the profile of a Member whose profile is visible by 'Everyone', your photo will be displayed next to your comment to other users of the Website. If you post to a public discussion forum, your photo will appear next to your post to other users of the Website. Your photo will also appear next to private messages, private posts, group membership applications and event participation applications when viewed by the recipients of those communications.
Refer a Friend
If a Member elects to use our "Refer a Friend" feature to invite a friend or client to become a Member of the Website, we ask them for the friend's e-mail address. We will automatically send the friend an e-mail inviting them to join the Website. We store this e-mail address for the purpose of automatically adding the respondent to the relationship list of the Member sending the invitation and vice versa. We will never sell these e-mail addresses or use them to send any other communication besides invitations. Any person who receives an invitation may contact Us to request the removal of this information from our database.
Cookies
We automatically track certain information regarding Member usage of the site through the use of cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on a user's computer for record keeping purposes. While we use cookies, we do not and will not use them to collect private information about our users. There are two types of cookies we use: session cookies and persistant cookies. A session cookie is used only during that session and helps us track when a user is logged in. It will expire when the user closes the browser. A persistant cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. Cookies help us store users' preferences and record session information. You can block cookies if you wish, but be aware that it may disable certain features on the site.
Security
The Website uses industry standard security measures to safeguard the confidentiality of your personally identifiable information. We limit the access to this information to those employees who need access to perform their job function such as our customer service personnel. The Website uses many different security techniques to protect data from unauthorized access by individuals inside and outside of the company. Be aware, however, that 'perfect security' does not exist on the Internet.
Policy Changes
We reserve the right to change our policy from time to time based on user feedback and our need to improve the Website for Members. Non-material changes and clarifications to this Policy will take effect immediately, and material changes will take effect within 30 days of their posting on this site. If we make material changes, we will post the change in the news section of the Website and will indicate at the top of this page the policy's effective date. We therefore encourage you to refer to this policy on an ongoing basis so that you understand our current privacy policy. Unless stated otherwise, our current privacy policy applies to all information that we have about you and your account. If you disapprove of policy changes, you may deactivate your account by clicking the 'Account' quick link when you are logged in.
Please contact us with any questions regarding this agreement.
