Off Season Training for Ice Hockey Players
When the hockey season ends, and you pack your skates and stick up, it's time to give your body a break. But how long should you take a break? And while you're not in preseason training, how should you be working out? Most hockey coaches and trainers will tell you to take 2 to 3 weeks off. No games, no workouts and lots of sleep.
It is typically recommended that during the off season, hockey players take time to allow the mind to rest, to allow muscles to recovery and to address any in-season injuries. This is also a good time to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. You can take this time to talk with your hockey coach about where you need to improve. You can also watch videos of games to discover for yourself what you need to work on or to see what other players do better than you.
