Barbell Tricep Extension



  • Sit in an upright chair with a back pad, press the barbell overhead and straighten your arms.

  • Keep your elbows close to your head as your raise and lower the barbell behind your head, then straighten your arms by pressing the weight back towards the ceiling.

  • Barbell, chair (Barbells can have fixed weight or be adjustable. If the one you use is adjustable, check the safety clips on each end to make sure they are secure before using the barbell.)

  • Arms 

  • Triceps brachii

  • TIP: Keep your chin lifted so that it is parallel to the ground.


Variations for Barbell Tricep Extension

  • Tricep Kickback

    This can be done in various ways to keep boredom away: on a bench, ball, kneeling, or standing. It also gives your back a gentle workout and hamstrings a gentle stretch.

  • Tricep Extension

    Sitting in an upright bench during this exercise will help keep your body stable so you can concentrate solely on working the triceps.

  • Overhead Tricep Extension

    You can improve your technique and your strength by concentrating on one arm at a time with this exercise.
