Climbing strengthens your entire body and helps improve balance. Climbers use their arms and their legs to pull and push themselves up rock, and often do it for sufficiently long enough that they build a lot of endurance in the meantime. There are a lot of gyms with climbing walls now so you don't have to trek four hours in the car just to practice your skills. Take an intro class so you can climb safely and be a good climbing partner.
