Fort Worth has been nicknamed "Cowtown" due to its rich and long history with cattle ranching and cattle stockyards. But cows are not the only thing that draws people into this sophisticated western city. There are hundreds of parks throughout Fort Worth that offer a variety of sports and physical fitness possibilities. Trinity Park which is situated along the Trinity River is one stop along the 35 miles of trails created on the river's banks. You can cycle, run, inline skate, and hike along these trails. Another park with great exercise potential, is Gateway Park which offers adult sports leagues including rugby, football and baseball leagues. For runners, there is the annual Cowtown Marathon, in exsistence for over 25 years, which features a half marathon, a 10k, a 5k and a three-person marathon. Within Fort Worth, there are 5 public golf courses. Additionally, there are numerous tennis courts like the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center which offers lessons and competitive leagues.
